A Career Helping Families, on a Schedule That Fits Your Life
Some people come to WEDOIT looking for protection. Others come looking for a way to help families like theirs. If you care about people and want flexible work with real purpose, a career as a licensed life insurance agent may be worth exploring. Here's an honest look at what it involves.
Who this is for
This work tends to fit people who care about others and like to explain things clearly. We welcome people from many backgrounds, including:
- Healthcare workers such as nurses, pharmacists, and technicians, who already understand how a diagnosis can affect a family
- Parents who want work they can shape around school pickups and family time
- Career changers who want to build new skills and do work that matters
- Community-minded people such as church members, volunteers, and neighbors who are the ones others already turn to for advice
You don't need a finance degree or sales experience. You do need a willingness to learn, a commitment to honesty, and the patience to put the client's needs first.
What the work actually is
A licensed agent's job is to help families understand their options and choose protection that fits. Day to day, that can include:
- Having educational conversations with families about their goals and worries
- Walking through a needs review: income, debts, mortgage, children, and existing coverage
- Explaining options in plain language, including costs and limits
- Helping clients complete applications and working with the insurance company through underwriting
- Staying in touch with regular reviews as life changes
It's meaningful work, and it takes effort. Building trust, learning products, and meeting new people take time
Part-time flexibility, explained honestly
Many people start this as a flexible, part-time business alongside a job or family. You'll help decide when and how much you work.
Here's what we want you to know up front:
- This isn't a salaried job. Insurance agents are typically paid by commission, so income depends on your work, skill, and time, and it can vary a lot from month to month.
- Results vary widely. Some people build a business over time; many earn little or nothing at first. We don't make income promises or projections.

- How licensing works: the general steps, from course to exam to appointment. See Licensing (/careers/licensing).
- How we train: product education, field training, weekly team training, and compliance. See Training (/careers/training).
- How we support you: one-on-one guidance from experienced agents. See Mentorship (/careers/mentorship).
- What the job requires: the ethics, time, and skills it takes to serve families well.
Questions people ask
Do I need experience in insurance or sales?
No. Many people start with no background in either. We teach product knowledge, conversation skills, and compliance step by step.
Can I do this part-time?
Yes. Many people start part-time around another job or family responsibilities and decide later how much time they want to give it.
How much can I earn?
We don't make income projections. Agents are typically paid by commission, and results depend on effort, skill, time, and many other factors. Many new agents earn little or nothing at first. We'll talk openly about how compensation works during a career conversation.
Insurance agents are typically paid by commission, not salary. Results vary widely, and no level of income is promised.
